hello all.
my 1972 plymouth valiant 225 / auto seems like I can not get the carb to act properly. I have done a soft parts rebuild kit on it - and noticed there were pieces that did not line up in the float bowl.

im a carb newby - so I guess it is a metering block there wich a plastic lever is suposed to plug a hole on the underside and it is activated by a spring shielded vaccume pod of sorts up top of the carb.

anyhow - the plastic lever no longer lines up to its hole to plug when it is activated - and I need to know if any other carb besides the holley 1920 will have the parts I need to fix it.

im also torn about what to do for the parts I need - either buy a junker carb off ebay for parts and hope it has what I need in good enough condition to use - or do I buy the "remanufactured" holley 1920 and take risk of it being assembled by junk parts from multiple carbs.

bottom line is that my car needs to be drivable - and im needing a new carb - if you were me - would you try to locate the parts to fix the current carb - or risk the purchace of a new remanufactured unit ?

this is NOT what mine looks like. im having trouble finding a shot of what mine is like tho. ill keep looking.

the parts that are gone bad on mine is the main well does not interact properly with the economizer anymore.

when i ran one of those carbs, that block/part was the only real trouble i ever had. at one point i had carb rebuilders tell me that part isn't available any more. and that was many years ago. i don't think u can repair that plastic lever. i'd start looking for a replacement.

im about at my whitts end with my current 1920 having no / refrence to refer to if parts are correct or not I believe my current avenue is to just go ahead and purchace the remanufactured unit from summit racing and then send my current carb on the car now off to someone knoledgable here about getting it setup and working 100% functional with all the correct pieces its suposed to have and use.

I believe I am dealing with mix match parts in a hastly cobbled together junk carb in some one elses attempts at repairing something they diddnt know how to.

but yes the one part I feel is absolutely not correct for my car is the main boddy that the economizer interacts with. im not shure what carb its from but every picture ive seen of a "1920"does not look like mine does where the little plastic lever is suposed to be activated by the economizer wich leads me to believe no matter what I do - the wrong parts in the carb are never going to act right or be able to be tuned well enough.


ive asked here before - and I believe every one is out of spare functional 1920 carbs to sell to me - so im gona have to buy the dreaded remanufactured unit I guess.

is summit racing my best bet at getting one that isnt a total piece of crap ?
or is there another on line place to order a better one from ?

PM SlantSixDan. I got my last NOS carb from him. (Holley 1920 Economaster) He might have something left in his bag of tricks.
Currently Mike B. is borrowing mine. When he upgrades, I plan to get it back! :D

I asked l6dan a fiew months back if he had a 1920 carb that would work for me and he said he was out of them.

I guess they are getting hard to come by in functional order.

I should reword what I said. I have 1920s, about 10 of them. Some functional, some are parts. I can sell you a perfectly functioning one cheaper than you can by one from summit or anyone else.

I am in Oregon. Where are you?

Not to worry......I have a spare 1920 carb plus Joe's Carbs Inc. in Lynnwood, WA has the parts in stock. I have purchased both the single plunger style and dual plunger style plastic arms. They have all the parts including floats for the various Holley 1920's.

Look for his address and phone number under Engine FAQ under carbs or under "The "Slanted Network". They are very friendly and helpful folks.

tomorrow in the daylight ill get pix of my current problem carb

but I am totaly still intrested in purchacing a second carb in known functioning condition.
im located in south FL. 33063 for shipping purpose - and I have a paypal account with some moneys in it ready for purchace of the carb.

I realley miss driving the car around so id definately like to get things rolling with it.

when i needed my BBD rebushed i just to a local rebuilder. the understood what i needed and i got it back, same day. are there no rebuilders near u?

they place i went is so local they don't even have a website.

They do a great job rebushing carbs. Midi added their website under "The Slanted Network". I never tried using it.......I have always called them or stopped by. Just Goggle them for a map or call. They are just two or three blocks north of the main drag, 196th and Hiway 99 on the left. They are super folks to work with. Joe taught me a lot about tuning the SL6.
