Post subject:  ignition cut off

I just got a low oil pressure ignition cut off from Mopar Performance. But it didn't come with any papers at all. Does the switch just get wired into the coil wire? Which side of the coil?

Thanks,

Rick

This is a great way to save your engine in the event you loose oil pressure. I have an oil cooler on my car and since it uses external oil lines which could fail, I too use a low oil pressure ignition cutoff. This is how I wired my car:

The switch should be a normally closed switch that opens when you have oil pressure. Run a circuit from the negative (-) side of the coil, the side that goes to the distributor points, to the switch. Now when the switch does not see pressure, it will ground the coil and it will not fire. So to start the car when you do not have oil pressure, you need to wire in an on/off switch between the coil and the switch. Momentarily moving the on/off switch to open allows you to start the car. You can install a a 100 ohm resistor in the above circuit to limit how much current flows through the coil.
