Post subject:  Group buy- roller timing set

Is any one interested in buying Cloyes double roller timing sets for the slant six. The parts are available individually, but Summits pricing is about $102. I spoke with Cloyes, today, and they might be willing to put the parts together as a "set", at a lower price, on a minimum quantity order. They are supposed to get back to me in a couple of days, with quantity required, and pricing, if the "powers that be" would be willing.

Sounds interesting. I'd have to see what price point they quote you. It might also be beneficial to know country of manufacture.
(I have very little confidence in Chinese cast iron.)

Good work Charlie.... I will likely get a couple of sets depending on the details.
Be sure to remind the Cloyes people that the bottom gear and chain are the same as the BB Mopar... only the top gear is SL6 specific.

Last time I checked, Cloyes offered a number of different quality levels that mostly changed the top (cam) gear's material and / or heat treating. Their "Heavy Duty" set use a cast (grey) iron cam gear where the "True Roller" sets used a ductile iron or heat treated grey iron so see if we can find-out what they will offer us.

They also have undersized chains for the BB engines so it would be nice to know if we can get .005 or .010 U/S chains as an option.

In general, the standard single row "silent" replacement timing sets we get these days use a very low quality cast iron cam gear material that seems to wear-out quickly so this can be a great way to be sure you are getting a high quality timing chain & gear set.

Actually they told me about the chain and sprockets (even though I knew that). The chain is also used on BB chevys. I was told they stoped offering "sets" because of no market. I told them about the site, and the deals we have gotten from Hussey (gaskets) Erson (cams), K-1 (con rods) Wiesco (pistons), Etc.
So lets wait and hope.

I got my last Rollmaster set from a Florida dealer via ebay store final cost was about $103. I'd be interested in knowing what the quality of the Cloyes set will be like before ordering, my last peiced together "set" was $82, the parts looked exactly like the dynagear set I got 10 years back. I take it the cam gear like previous renditions we'll have to drill for the bushing, if needed?

At one time Hughes Engines, had double roller sets by Avon for about that price, but they have been discontinued.

Pieced together a premium set (double-roller) at rock auto for a 64 Dodge W300

Cloyes S339 $21.79

Cam: (50 teeth)
Cloyes S338 $49.79

Chain: (66 double links 3/8" pitch)
Cloyes C168 $14.05

Total $85.63
Less 5% $4.28

Parts cost $81.35

Shipping varies, but $11.18 for me to CA. So this may be highest expected.

Grand Total $92.53

(didn't buy, just priced it out)
