My friend's (yes I wish it was mine) 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger needs to have its timing adjusted. It's got a /6 225, all stock. I've been told by a few people that there is a certain way to do it on these engines. I don't see how that would be, but I'm posting here to see if anyone can tell me the actual proper procedure for doing it. Just trying to cover all bases here. Thanks in advance...

Hey,
well the for the best performance and gas milage on a stock slant is to run 10-12deg BTDC timing on a slant... just do this by bringing it up to 12deg BTDC and then re-adjust the dist so its pointing to the #1 plug wire on the cap, you can also just set it by timing light which is a heck of alot faster and easier...

Just unplug the vac advance line and plug it at the carb. Connect a timing light and set it to 5 deg before TDC. You can usually get away with about 10 deg BTDC for a little better throttle response. Just listen for pinging when it's hot or on hills (test drive after setting timing), and back it off 2-4 deg if it pings at 10 BTDC.

Hope this helps,

Lou
