Am trying to replace the oil pump on my 76 aspen 225 slant 6. Got all 5 bolts out. The pump will rotate stiffely back and forth only about 5 degrees each way however it will not budge to come out. Ive tried pry bars to pry it out but no movement at all. Took the destributor out but I think it must not have been necessary. Pryed again , still stuck. Im afraid to use too much force for fear of breaking off parts of the pump. The engine has never been apart at 110k. Could it be varnish? an old rubber O-ring?? Any help at all would be appreciated! Does anyone know of a good slant 6 mechanic in the Okla. city area, the new dealers around here arent interested and dont keep parts that far back. Thanks!

My guess would be a build up of sludge/varnish, you might try getting some "PB blaster" into the area between the pump and the block as you twist and pull the pump.
Don't pry on the pump!

Nope, its not any kind of varnish of buildup. It is a lack of clearance between the frame and the engine block on an F-body. To remove the slant six oil pump in an F body, you have to unbolt the motor mounts and hoist the engine up several inches to get the pump out of the block. No other way to do it. One of the few downsides to the F/M/J/R body design.

Usually you can get away with unbolting the passenger side only and jacking it up so the motor tilts towards the driver's side.
