Hello. I have a 67 A100 with a 225 /6. I removed the stock rope seal and installed a rubber one twice now per Dougs instructions. The rear seal still leaks. I'm convinced it is because my crank has factory nerrling to help keep the the rope seal lubed. The nerrling is very deeply machined. I would like to install a rope seal without dropping the crank. Has anyone used a sneaky pete on a /6 with success?? Thanks Mike in WA huskynox@yahoo.com |

Only two things I can think of: The lip seal is facing the wrong direction(most likely), or, and this is a long shot, it is a marine crankshaft made to rotate opposite direction, so knurling is in the wrong direction. fglmopar@aol.com |

Sneaky Pete works but man...what a nasty job. You should break loose oll the mains and let the crank "hang down" as much as possible before you slip-in the new rope seal. I would take the time needed to inspect and measure things, something is not right and changing rear main seals is a real pain. I'm not convinced that the heavy knurl would cause a big leak. DD |
