I wanted to send the /6 head in today to get cut for chevy valves, decked, and ported but the guy doing it wants to know the valve lengths of the stock MP valves and the chevy/ford valves I wanted to replace the stockers with, I have .436 cam, mild performance six. I wanted to keep the 1.60/1.30 valves for the torque (since there isnt any meat on this head to cut more) and deck the head 60 Thousandths. Do you have any part numbers you could tell me for the chevy valves so I can order them up. Do you have a regular cylinder head shop you go to, this one is called FlowTech in Garden Grove, Ca. I live in Torrance. I may be wrong but I remember you being somewhere around Corona. Any help?

Doc is up in the Sacramento area today. He is going to the racetrack tomorrow and may not get back online until he gets home (Sunnyvale).

The SB Chev valves, 1.72/1.50 are very close to 0.10" longer than Slant valves and they require 11/32" valve guides. I would go with the Chev ones, or the SB Ford, which are about the same length and 1.78/1.46. Don't worry about the valves being too big (at least with these valves) because the stock head was made for a 170, so you won't kill low end. Make sure to have the seats cut for the bigger valves, then blend the machined area into the port, then do the valve job to finish up.

Happy building,

Lou
