Post subject:  carb blowback

My /6 is a hard cold starter. Often before it starts it will "diesel" and blow smoke and stuff back through the carb. I think it actually might be turning backwards when this happens. It WILL eventually start, but always takes a while, I usually have to manually open the choke, an I sometimes run through a battery first.

I've got plenty of fuel at the carb, and the spark seems strong at the distributor, and at every plug I check. It runs great when it starts, and hot starts are very easy, if I don't give it too much gas. I'm out of ideas....

Your valves may be sticking when cold. Try putting some Maevel Mystery Oil in the crankcase and see if that helps. Works great on sticky valves.
