| Post subject: | Engine condition for turbo? |
I've been asking a lot of questions here about the slants as I'm getting ready to do a 225. One idea I had was to install a turbo. I've done a lot of engine builds over the years but have never done anything with a turbo. Would it be best to leave the engine bone stock when installing a turbo? Or will some of the naturally asperiated mods help in a turbo install? The car will be a street sleeper/daily driver occausionally drag raced on the weekends. I'm aiming for at least a 50% power increase. Also, I wish to do a diy build rather then purchase a kit, and am wondering which turbo to use. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks! ________ Fifth-generation chevrolet camaro specifications |

My sugestion would be to use a good condition stock used motor, to start with. There will be a learning curve if you have never done a turbo. After you get the turbo setup and running, you can deciede how much more you want, based on your goals, and budget. |

Thanks alot guys, the responses are appreicated. I was talking to a local turbo guy today and he agreed. However, he said that considering the age of the engine, even if in good shape, he'd pull the old valve springs out and install new stock 340 V8 springs. He said that the old valve springs might be worn enough to cause valve float with a turbo. That make sense, and are stock 340 springs a drop in? ________ ZX14 VS HAYABUSA |

yes but depending on your boost level, you might need to shim them. I did to .100" with a stock cam.
