Post subject:  Carter AFB 9400 Fuel Leak Question

Hi guys,

I just rebuilt my AFB and still have a problem. Fuel accululates in the well where the air valve counter weight rests. I guess It could just be the gasket but I think it might be the tiny vent in the top of the secondary booster. The top of the booster is wet with fuel. Could I have the float too high? Does some fuel shoot out that hole sometimes? It seems that there has always been some fuel in the bottom of the well. It seems to run OK.

Just one more reason to get the DCOE's together. 8)

What kind of float level spec are you using? I haven't worked on one for awhile, but I believe they are around 5/16". Don't know your specific app, but you probably have brass floats. Make sure they aren't full of fuel. If all else fails, maybe the inlet needles are worn or defective. If they are rubber tipped be careful not to press on them. Nothing more than the mere weight of the float should ever be on them. Make sure the gaskets under the clusters are the correct ones and oriented correctly. Some AFB's have clusters that can be swapped side for side. Even no's are right side, odd left(driver's side).

Just had another thought. Make sure the secondaries are closed at idle.
I once saw an AFB that someone had removed the throttle blades and replaced them upside down! They are cut on a kerf, so they only seal in one orientation.
