Hi Guys So I got the Dart out of the garage last weekend and put it on the drive, it's been laid up for a year (recession) but this year I want it back on the road. My first question is can anyone give me some pointers on carb rebuilds - I have a Carter ball and ball on it and it's pretty sad. My second question is does anyone have any suggestions on some friendly parts suppliers in the states that will be happy to deal with a bumbling Englishman - so far over here I've had quotes for engine mounts at £67.50 + VAT each (thats pounds so double it to make dollars!) and £37.50 for A wiper blade... Thanks in advance for any nuggets of information! Jeff |

Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. It's getting difficult to get a good-quality carb rebuild kit that includes the necessary special float gauge; most of them include a useless paper ruler. You might have better luck with a kit from www.thecarburetorshop.com , though it'll be more costly than the mass-market off-the-shelf kits. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. The engine will need periodic valve adjustment. Get the three books described in this thread as quickly as you can. You can get poor-quality engine mounts that are made in India of compressed cow dung, or from www.polybushings.com you can get the only good ones. Here is a list of reliable parts suppliers. You can do okeh with overseas parts purchases from www.rockauto.com or http://www.dmauto.com/ . Also, it looks like you've still got US-spec headlamps in the car, which dip to the right and won't light your way very effectively even if you got past MoT with them (And how'd you get past MoT with the amber front sidelights?) |

You could use the search function, some people have rebuilt engine mounts by removing the rubber and filling with a new compound might save you a buck. I can't comment on how well it works but people on this board have done it. |
