So I'm considering buying a NOS BBS or 1920.

First question is, anybody have a reputable source for either of these carbs?

Next question is, since a NOS carb will have sat for roughly 40 years, should I rebuild the carb before using it?

And final question, is there anything else I need to consider when buying a NOS carb?

Unfortunately there is no go-to source for a new carb; it's catch as catch can. Be sure you are getting a >>new<< carb, not a rebuild. Yes to a good quality carb kit before installation. See the carb or pics before buying to check for serious corrosion etc from wet storage.

I second Dan on the 'make sure it is actually new' carb. A rebuilt one usually means you are inheriting someone's problem. And yes to rebuild...

Alright so for rebuilding a NOS carb, will spray carb cleaner work well enough or do I need to bust out the dip tray and let it soak a while?

If it hasn't had fuel in it, spray is fine. NOS means it's never touched gasoline.
If it is truely NOS you shouldn't much cleaner, but for dust. The gaskets and rubber parts will need replaced because they are old and dried out.

From my experience with carb rebuilds, as long as you clear out all the jets/pathways in the carb and get rid of as much grime inside as possible then it lasts for a long time. Most of the time a can carb spray does the trick... sometimes two. If things are really blocked up or there is significant grime, then you will need to dip.

Since this is a 'new' carb, a can of carb spray ~should~ do the trick.
