Post subject:  Fuel leak at carb inlet

I just got a NOS BBS and rebuilt and installed it today. After installation I tested it out and I'm leaking fuel at the inlet-to-fuel line junction. I did follow the fuel line mod if that makes any difference.

I'm not sure what to do the fittings are very snug. Also, it didn't leak before.

Any tips would be great!

Suspect the fitting you screwed into the brass inlet body. I have had them leak unless tightened super tight. You may want to grab the original short stubby steel carb-to-filter line and connect your flexible fuel hose to that instead.

Thanks Dan. One more question, tomorrow I'm going to really torque on that fitting, any objections?

I am a little concerned about stripping the threads on the carb body from potentially over-tightening the fuel inlet while trying to get a solid connection for the fuel line. Is this a legitimate concern or should I not worry so much about it?

Never ever try to tighten the fitting that threads into the brass inlet fitting, without holding the inlet fitting with a wrench, or you will strip the threads in the potmetal carburetor body. Position two end wrenches, one on the inlet fitting and the other on the elbow you're adding in place of the metal fuel line, such that you can grab both wrenches with one hand and squeeze to tighten the one fitting into the other.
