Have it polished, should only cost about $50. They can check all your journal sizes too. |

If thats a forged crank it should be able to be welded and reground to stock clearance. Richard |

| Post subject: | king bearings |
thanks for the replies. after some internet searches and searches on this site, it seems King bearings are being recommended and recognized as quality parts. they offer wide thrust flanges. i am guessing about .010 will need to be removed to clean it up. does anyone here have knowledge of these parts and do they have enough "extra material" to make up for a clean up cut on the thrust face? thanks again, andy. an excerpt from the King Bearings website; "All bearing companies solve crankshaft journal wear by supplying oversized bearings. However, King went two steps further with the development of Max Flange and Pro Flange. Max Flange reduces endplay by supplying the flange on the high side of the tolerance to compensate for crankshaft thrust surface wear; this process is used on all King bearings. Pro Flange are bearing sets supplied with oversized flanges allowing the thrust surface to be ground to .010", .020", or .030" undersize." |

Do they list a Pro Flange main bearing set for the slant? If so have the crank ground including the thrust surface. If not your options are polish it up and see if the end play is within specs or weld and grind. |

yes, it is a forged crank, and i am guessing no on the pro flange as there is only one option listed. http://www.king-bearings.com/cat/panel/pan2232.htm will get it cleaned up and see what the end play ends up using the Kings. hope to avoid welding and resizing to save some $$$, but if i must, i must. thanks, andy. |

My '64 Dart motor had about 0.012" or so when I checked it a few years ago. Zero problems with this engine and lots of hard beating... Lou |

Last time we checked mine it was at .014". Mike said it was OK. Nothings fallen out of it yet. Lou We're dealing with Slants here, not Lamborghini's. |

wait, wasn't there a photo of a lamborghini with a slant in it? no. probably not. but seriously, at what amount of end play would you consider "maximum" before welding is needed? andy. |
