Hey, my power steering pump (66 cuda) is leaking from underneath, toward the front close to the wheel & belt. Anyone know if this is a major issue or more of just a fix? If so, what is the fix? Eugene |

Sounds like the front oil seal has failed. Reason could be old age, too much force from over tighten drive belt, or worn bearing. Rebuilding parts and seals are available at Rock Auto. You need to know type of pump that you have befor ordering. Rebuilding a Power Steering Pump may be beyond your capabilities if you don’t have the necessary pullers, and means to press things back together. FSM illustrates how to rebuild a pump. Personally I would send it out for a rebuild. If you do send it out, keep the filler cap and tank, replacements are very hard to find. |

Thanks. I actually have a bit of a strange situation on my hands, becasue the power steering pump looks like the previous owner banged in the under part a bit to get it to fit or something was done radically with the engine where it sits lower and was dinged up badly by the neighboring bushings. So if this was a bang job, that makes me wonder if the thing is the correct pump for this engine. If not, then I could buy the correct replacement and it "should" fit...but if it IS the correct one, then buying a new one would be useless, as it would have to use the current banged up version in order for it to fit...the whole thing looks like it is adjustable, but due to its belt connection to the crankshaft, I am stumped.... |

Install the correct engine mount (motor mounts) and you will get the proper clearance. (It looks like someone installed 67 and up motor mounts on an early K-frame) I bet the oil pin is also touching the K-frame with that set-up. DD |

Thanks. Yes, It had the wrong mounts, so I had them changed and the engine did rise up...it just still looks like it would need more room. |

Once your engine is sitting at its correct elevation, and power steering pump is no longer parked in the strut rod you can repair the damaged reservoir, I suspect that where the strut has deformed the tank that this is where one of your leaks is from. Remove rear bolt attaching metal tank, and slide tank off the pump casting. Tank is only held in place and sealed by an “O†ring. Degrease tank, and carefully tap out the dent being carful not to over do it. Chances are there will be a split in the metal. That split can easily be sealed by soldering it closed. Depending on the extent of the damage, a small tin patch may have to be incorporated to bridge any large holes. Check the attachment point of the neck to tank for any leaks as well, that area can also be soldered. A little work with a file, flowing out lumpy solder joints, and the repair will mostly disappear once tank is painted. |

The PS belt may-be a little short, the pump assembly will adjust up-words & out if you use a slightly longer belt. (look at the adjustment bolt slots to see if you have room to adjust, for the longer belt) DD |
