I am new to the maintenance world. I've never worked on engines before. I do know a little but not enough. I just bought my truck and have been trying to get it to run for the last 3 weeks. I've done the obvious plugs, wires battery and still a no go. I am getting fire at the plugs and I am shooting starter fluid so I know I'm getting gas but its not even trying to run. I get nothing but a dead battery from it turning over and over. Please someone shoot me a life line, I don't know anything and really want to do it myself. |

Welcome on the board. As quickly as you can, get the three books described in this thread. Remove the distributor cap and see if the rotor turns when you crank the engine. If not, pull the distributor and check for a broken distributor drive gear. See here. If the distributor is turning, pull the spark plugs and check them for fouling. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread, and these engines need periodic valve adjustment. |
