| Post subject: | Plate nitrous system on a slant? |
I was wondering if i can put a 4-bbl nitrous system on my slant? I have a clifford intake, 500 cfm edelbrock carb and split headers. the engine is basicly stock internally. I want to port/polish the head though and install electronic ignition. I know i need to run colder plugs and retard the timing on the spray. Can the slant safely handle 75-100 hp of nitrous? Thanks, Tom B. -I love the new site! |

A stock SL6 in good condition can handle a 75 to 100 HP shot as long as you follow all the "rules" of nitrous. The biggest issue is having a good fuel supply because if you run low on fuel pressure....poof! The other issue with a plate system is finding one with a "cloverleaf" spray pattern instead of the "side to side" spray bars most V8 plates have. For the SL6 there is a backwall to the intake that does not need to be sprayed an end runners which do. Overall a cheap way to get lots of power, my system knocked 1.5 seconds off the car DD |

Personal opinion, I don't like a plate system on a inline engine. I know a lot of people run them. I just didn't like what I saw on a bench test. I am now up to a 175 hp shot on my fogger system, and have had no problems, yet. Just about a 3 sec improvement on my Cuda. I have over 75 full track nitrous runs, right from the start line and out the back door. |

I probably have about $1000 in my whole system. That includes the dual electric fuel injection type pumps, braided lines and stainless fittings, and three pressure regulators. Also I purchased everything new. It can be done cheaper. One place not to scrimp, is in fuel delivery. Overkill is good. |

I saw Charlie’s car at the Mopars with Big Daddy show. It looks sweet. After seeing Charlie’s setup, Nitrous looks doable. Also there was always a crowd around it. I got chased away once by magazine photographers. Maybe we will see it in one of the MOPAR Mags in the next few months. John |
