Guys,

I'm really having trouble here. I can't remove the front plastic panel (with the speed, fuel, voltage, etc... gauges) on my '65 Dart 270 4 door with 3-speed automatic. I have the factory manual which tells me to remove the four screw to take off the panel.

Well, I remove 5 screws holding the panel, but the left side of the panel (with wiper/lights control) is stuck somehow. I've giggled and pulled, but I can't find out how it is stuck.

Is there some sort of trick that I'm missing? I really don't want to break the plastic, but I currently can't think of anything else. Any advice? I'm still somewhat new, so I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

You have to remove the headlight and wiper switches, the ignition switch and lower the steering column. The factory service manual details this. This is just one very good reason to own a factory service manual for your car.

Wow, I must have gone by it 3 times. The instructions are locate on page 8-62.

Unfortunately, step 4 says "Remove the headlight and wiper switches." Well, I must be dumb. I can't remove the switches. I don't see any tabs or screws. Although, I can disconnect them at the electrical plugs, but panel is still stuck.

Taking break for now. Any help would be appreciated.

IIRC the light switch shaft has to come out of the switch. I believe there is something..button?..that needs to be depressed for the shaft to come out and I don't think you will be able to see it unless you have a head the size of a marble. I think it is a "by braille" procedure.

Do a search using "Light switch and removal" and you will get some hits to lead you in the right direction

And you should disconnect the battery if you're removing the light switch................

For my car (Think it will be similar)

For the light switch the release button was more of a dimple on the underside of the switch behind the dash. It was just a hard plastic bump I had to push quite hard and the button part (shaft and head) came straight out.

For the wiper switch on my car the shaft seemed to connect to a circular part just before it would go into the dash, this part looked like a circle with small bites taken out of it at regular intervals (kind of like a circular saw blade), this is could rotated and was the bolt holding the switch to the dash.

hope this helps.

See here for detailed step-by-step instructions on how to remove your instrument cluster.
