Check this out. Put this "great running" 1920 on my friends 64 and it was perfect when it left. He gets home after a 30 minute fwy trip and the thing is leaking gas big time. Takes it to his mechanic and the guy tells him he is lucky to be alive in no less terms. This hole appeared in the accelerator pump circuit, and its a friggin HOLE, not a crack or anything you might expect to see from working 44 year old carb. Where did it come from, previous repair job? Lead plug come out? Area around the hole looked a little leather textured instead of the relatively smooth casting. I though it got so hot it melted! Almost looks like that. It would shoot a jet of gas rearward out his hole whenever he hit the pump, scary!

Checked all my 1920 carbs. All have this hole.

So if gas is getting out of this hole, is the accelerator piston seal shot?

Might be the float is stuck to high or his fuel pump is a higher pressure that yours and is flooding the carb

Turns out this IS the weep hole for a blown accelerator pump diaphragm. Just replaced it 10 minutes ago, it was shot. Now why they put this hole to vent to a hot exhaust manifold boggles my lawyers mind. Another slanty told of 1920's being fire hazards, I believe him now whole heartedly. If I ever run another Im plugging this hole with a piece of lead buckshot. If my diaphragm starts to go, ill know in other ways besides a fuel wash onto my exhaust manifold. Of course my Holley 2300 is in the same position, diaphragm hanging over the exhaust but its far enough to drip to the side. Be aware, safety first. Happy motoring!
