So I took my '82 Dodge D150 into the shop this past Tuesday to get the carb rebuilt. After my mechanic took it apart he noticed that the carb was warped and said that I would need to get another carb. The only rebuilt stock 1bbl carb is from Holley and costs $460 |

1bbl-to-2bbl adaptor plates are a very poor idea. So are "remanufactured" carburetors, whether they come from Holley or some other source -- they're junk. (So are the "new high top" and "new low top" Carter BBDs all over eBay, which in fact are hideously badly made Chinese copycats). If you want to go to a 2bbl without having to re-engineer the engine management system to delete the O2 sensor, catalytic converter, computer, etc., use a feedback Carter BBD for a 1982-'84 passenger car 318 engine. It'll mount directly to a Super Six intake manifold, hook up directly to the existing wiring, and in conjunction with an HEI upgrade replacing the spark control functions of the computer, will greatly improve the truck's driveability, economy and performance. Send me a PM if you want to go that route, I have a new (real) '82-'84 Carter BBD on the shelf. |
