Hey guys
So I got a Carter bbd from my dad, it came on his 87 ram which has a 383 swapped into it. He put a 4bbl on it when he got it and had the 2bbl rebuilt. I found out it is a large bore bbd. There are lots of numbers on it but I can't find crap about this carb. Idk the year of the 383, but I was gonna use this carb when i do the super six conversion. Now for the questions:

1. How well will this carb do on a stock slant after super six conversion?

2. What is the cfm of the carb? I know it's gonna be big since it was on a big block.

3. How easy is it gonna be to get the linkage set up, throttle and what not.

4. To add on to #1 will the drivability be good in cold weather and just all around?

A little extra info, straight piped with a 24" glasspack and hei ignition. That's it for mods. So far, still looking for 2bbl manifold.

Any help and any suggestions on what to be careful of and what to do are appreciated.

I haven't played with this swap; the big-block 2bbl carb isn't considered a good match for the slant-6. Driveability and fuel economy will probably be poor. Also it won't bolt directly to a Super-6 intake.

I have a buddy with one on his '69 Valiant.

To expound on what Dan said:

1. It will not bolt on, you'll have to make an adapter.
2. It can be tuned with enough work.
3. It is not a good choice for an otherwise stock motor.

Yeah that's what I thought. Dang. Well what about a 2bbl off of a small block like a 318? Would that be better and bolt right on?

Yep and yep. You'd still have to adapt the choke hookup, but that's about it. Some 273/318 carbs (Carter BBD, Stromburg WW3, Holley 2280) have a hole in each throttle plate calibrated to provide correct engine idle speed with the throttle plates fully closed on a particular V8 engine configuration, which often means you can't get the idle speed low enough when such a carb is installed on a smaller-than-intended engine. The holes can be plugged and the carburetor used successfully.
