on my 69 a100 - 225 with carter 1 barrel - is this really the way the air cleaner was mounted ? - or did someone adapt a different type on to the carter - it is a real pain to take this air cleaner housing off on a a100 - oo3

This what you're showing us is not an air cleaner from any 1969 Chrysler Corporation vehicle. Those thermostatic snorkels didn't come in til '70, and they were rectangular (not oval) until '73.

thank you for that information - correct me if i am wrong - what you are then telling me is that this was an adaptation with mounting tabs welded on - and second is there a paper element type air cleaner that will fit the carter or holley that does not have the bolt up the middle - as in it had a oil bath cleaner assm with mounting clamp - or a way to adapt this one - oo3

Oh, interesting, yours requires the clamp-band mounting because it originally had an oil bath air cleaner. No, there's no such air cleaner I'm aware of. You could swap on a carburetor (or just the air horn, if it's a Carter BBS) for one with the bail-and-gasket air cleaner mount, or you could swap back on the correct oil bath air cleaner…
