Hi folks got a 83 d150 (engine) was black when new. Does anyone know if that color engine paint was gloss, or flat? Getting ready to repaint vlv cover and was wondering, original is black but cannot tell if gloss or flat. as usual thanks in advance. frcc |

Ive got an '82. I think its probably gloss. I know the air cleaner was gloss black. But most of my paint has pealed off the block and the vc is so dull its hard to tell. Im not doing original color on the intake or the block when i repaint it though but im gonna use gloss 500* engine enamel. Intake might have been flat from what i can tell. Not sure. There are a few good paint threads with all the /6 colors. Dan will probably post the links to them soon. Idk where they are. Search button might help. Cody |

84 up is black; my 83 is (and was) "318 blue". I laso had an 83 5th Ave years ago and it too had a blue engine. as did my Dad's /6 powered 82 Gran Fury. I believe the only black engines before this time would have been 2.2s in reliants and such. |

In 83 truck and van slant six motors were black. As were all 84-and up slants. |

oh. so /6s "followed" the FWD motors for paint; my "83 truck (current) and 83 5th Av of years ago, were both V8s. |

Yes. My 83 van has a blue 318, but the 83 slant on the stand in my garage is factory black. However, the 84 5th avenue I sold to EricW had a black 318 (if I remember right) |
