What camshaft, axle ratio, carb, etc are some of you running with a stock converter and what are the results you have gotten. Thanks, Brad |

Short answer: For performance, get a high stall converter and don't bother with a stocker. Trust me, you will be much happier. A bit more on what you asked: MP 244, COMP 252, or maybe Erson 270 are the biggest I would run with a stock converter. Degree them at 100-102 centerline. Do not expect to run much faster than 17s with any combo like this, even with tall gears. You can easily drop 0.5-1 sec off your 1/4 mile or 1/8 mile time with a 2800 or so stall converter. Mileage will not suffer much (0.5-2 MPG) unless you are hard on the gas all the time or drive too slow on the hwy to get the converter above the stall speed. Yes, I'm expressing a strong opinion here... Lou |

I learned a very important lesson about cams and stall speed with my '71 Dodge B300 van. Bottom line is do not do anything which reduces low speed torque without increasing stall speed otherwise off-the-line performance will suffer. Fopar's individual runner intake setup makes a lot of low and mid-range torque. More than a plenum manifold so it works better than you'd expect with a low stall converter. |

I agree with Lou,over 0.450 lift cam,a higher stall torque converter will be a big help. |

It looks like Fopar is running CV carburetors which will deliver good bottom end since they operate on the engines demand and yes with the IRs fuel distribution is close to perfect. With whatever cam/converter I end up with I am going to run my Hpak intake. |

Lou it's not cheating it's called innovation, got the idea from Don D. and his rail. He used older snowmobile carbs.Lou Richard |
