A friend of mine who has a mopar collection of mostly v8 cars and it is a nice collection has a Slant 71 Dart that has a problem . It is stock. I am not a expert on stock Slant engines. His problem is the car starts up cold and runs fine and runs fine up to normal tempature. When he shuts it off for up to 10 minutes it will start up fine but if lets it set 30 minutes he has to put the accelactor on the floor and it takes about 1 minute to start. Ok GuRus Lets Go Thanks Ron Parker |

Heat-soak induced percolation. Seems worse on the '70-'73 Holley 1920s than on the previous ones. Put in a new float (Walker #100-14) and get the new-design inlet needle and seat called "DFV" from www.daytonaparts.com -- might as well get complete carb kit from them. Set float slightly(!) lower than spec. Make sure correct 3/8" thick insulator gasket is in place between carb and intake, do the fuel line mod, and fabricate a heat shield. Also use correct starting procedure. With a warm or hot engine, hold the accelerator about 1/3 of the way down while cranking. That is, hold it steady, without pumping, while cranking. |
