Post subject:  main journal help

crank i pulled out of my motor, took to the crank shop, they told me was already .030 under. and said it needed to be turned, and .040 bearings are hard to come by. so they sold me a 10/10 crank. as i look at the old main bearings, it says .020.

anyways my question is what is the standard main journal size, just to make sure my new crank is a 10/10. and also is there any visual things that tell me that the crank is a 225?

2.750 is the standard main journal size so .010 under would be 2.740
Standard connecting rod journal size is 2.187
The forging number in the middle of the crank will tell you if it is a 225, 198 or 170 crank.

I will later. I already torqued the main caps and rear main seal down with the 10/10 crank

I remember the guy at crank shop checked the rear of both cranks with calipers, right before I loaded it in the truck.. could that be what he was checking

Could be. Not much else to measure back there.

Did you save your old crank, or did it go to the core pile?

its sitting out side all rusty, which is fine since it needs to be cut, to .030..., im a little irritated that the crank was still good, to get a good easy to find set .030 bearings. ohwell, anyone wanna buy a crank cheap?
