mine are noisy and only move about90 degrees. Do you have to be a contortionist or a midget to get under the dash to make repairs.? Its a 1973 Duster.

I found for some under dash projects, removal of the front seat is quite beneficial for health of ones spine, and back muscles. The time taken to remove it is made up by being able to get the job done quicker, and generally there are no hours wasted at the Chiropractor.

Easiest thing to do is remove the glove box liner to get a good look at the wiper linkages. After that, everything gets painful.

No, you just have to be young and dumb. That's why my buddy brought his over for me to fix! After learning the ropes on his A/C equipped Dart, I replaced all four bushings on my non A/C Dart in less than 15 minutes.

I'm trying to replace those linkage bushings on my '77 Aspen and having TROUBLE. I put the bushings on the driving linkage rod but cannot get enough pressure on the top left (driver's side) knob that the bushing is supposed to slide onto to make it click into place. Am I going about this wrong?

I've tried greasing the bushings and heating them up in boiling water but can't get them to snap on to hold the driving linkrod in place. Any help will be appreciated.

Hey, still having trouble, Maybe those were large slip-joint pliers you used? The small ones I have can't get enough of a bite to work.

Also, does the Napa part you mentioned fit the '77 Aspen? If so, I may try those ones, though I only need two of them. Different design on different Dodge's I think, my service manual details at least two, maybe three different styles of wiper linkage arrangements.

Maybe the Help! bushings I bought at Oreillys are just a little bit smaller than they're supposed to be? I can't get them to slide onto the post, even the one that's on the wiper motor linkage that I CAN reach fairly well.

Any more trounle and I'll make my own linkage with PVC and wire!

I guess I was the smart one, I had my windshield pulled for paint and body so I pulled my dash and painted it black and fixed everything under dash that I needed to while it was out of the car, talk about easy! I hate working under dashs

I have changed more wiper bushings in different year mopars, then I care to remember. I have tried many different ways. The best way is:
1) remove the linkage from the vehicle
2) use genuine Mopar bushings from the dealer

thanks, Charrlie_S, I finally did like you said and removed the linkage from the vehicle by removing the wiper arms. It was a snap after that, put on the bushings & reinstall.

I was really thwarted by trying to do the job through the access ports in the cowl, apparently some people have done it that way, but it seemed impossible to me... too hard to reach to get any force onto the bushings.

I use a set of pump pliers to seat the nub to the bushing...make sure to put a little dab of grease or lube in the pocket.

When you want to inspect things under the dash or other tight/awkward places, here's a tip:

Use a webcam and a laptop. The cam will fit places your head won't. If you can, get a webcam that can focus up close. A metal coat hanger lets you put it almost anywhere without getting yourself in a bind. A USB extension cable gives you more reach. A small LED light helps in the dark places - I use an LED reading light from the dollar store. It does add a blue tinge to everything, but generally that's not a problem.

Most of the webcams come with a basic program that lets you take videos or still shots from the laptop.
