hey guys, I just picked up a '90 model ramcharger with a blown engine for a $100 bucks. It has the Holly 2 barrel TBI on it. Would this work on a slant with MS running it, maybe even with a turbo? |

I think it would work real fine, say with a supersix manifold. You could turbo that with low boost before you ran out of injector flow. Plan to make the same hp as a 318 before having to increase injector size. |

The '88-'91 TBI system used on 3.9, 5.2, and 5.9 engines in trucks and vans is poor hardware driven poorly by poor firmware/software. You can get around the latter with MegaSquirt or whatever other control setup you want, but the hardware itself is clumsy and primitive and marginal through and through. You can surely make it work, but I think it will be more difficult to make it work well. I could be wrong. Try it out and let us know! |

Holley later repackaged the same TBI unit (only not machined for an IAC valve) with a more primitive computer as the Pro-Jection.I could be wrong. Try it out and let us know! I've done a bit of testing with one of the Pro-Jection variants and a GM TBI on a small block Chevy (went straight to multiport on my slant six). The fuel distribution wasn't too good with either one, although they had somewhat better cold start and warm up characteristics over a carb. |

No IAC valve on the Dodge version. It used a slow, noisy, clumsy external ISC pushing on the throttle lever instead.

I did build an EFI system using a '90 Dodge TBI and controlled by Megasquirt. I didn't have any beef with the hardware, although I wasn't using an IAC valve. It had great throttle response, vastly improved low end torque, and never gave me a moment's trouble. With the TBI you get the fuel pressure regulator, injectors, throttle position sensor, throttle body, and some vacuum ports all in one package. My system was on a 360 V-8. Using TBI on the long slant manifold is another discussion, but that's not an inherent fault of the hardware. Here's a look at that TBI/MS combo in action. A few days after I got it running and tuned, I drove it to Moab (about 600 miles one way) wheeled it, and drove it home. No problems. It liked the angles much better than a carb. Fins 'n Things trail. Obstacles are steeper than they appear. ![]() Oil pressure was going away here. Look closely at the tire tracks... ![]() Throttle response helps here. ![]() And here: ![]() When dirt biker stop to watch, you got something happening. ![]() The system being built and tested. This was my first Megasquirt build so I was all excited. Lou made me do it. Comparison photo of the 360 TBI venturi size (L) compared to a Holley 2V carburetor for a 360. (R) This tells you something about EFI. Mounted on the truck with a lot of wiring to do. Here's my thread on RamchargerCentral documenting this build. I also did the TBI on the Offy manifold for the /6 which you can read about in this section. RIP Ramus, you were a good truck. Lost in the great shop fire of 2009. |

Very cool, I am taking the TBI unit off of a 1992 Dodge truck, rebuilding it and cleaning and flowing the injectors, then dropping the unit on a late 70's 360 and installing it in a 62 Dodge truck. I have also considered installing the 3.9 TBI unit on a slant six, as an alternative to a carburetor. |
