Hi all

Its been over a year since I removed the door lock mechanism on my '66 Dart Vert. Now I cant remember how to fit it back.

Is there supposed to be a small spring connecting the barrel to the door lock mechanism? Or is it just a plain metal wire? Any idea how it should be connected? Pictures would be G R E A TTTT!!!

Im getting frustrated as the car is just about ready but I cant lock the door!

When i twist the key it will only turn one way - so if i lock it manual by pressing the locking knob from the inside, I can then use the key to unlock. But then the key wont turn the other way to LOCK! Help!!

Im sure im missing something here. Help!

Syed

How much did you disassemble the door handles & lock cylinders?

Sometimes some of the linkage rods, and tail pieces at end of lock cylinder or just lock cylinder are handed. Meaning left side parts won’t work on right side of car even though they all go back together. Perhaps if you swap left lock cylinder with right cylinder it will solve the problem.

My 1967 FSM has several diagrams illustrating how all the door latch & lock linkages interact that are located in the body section.

I don’t know about your ‘66, but the ‘67 door can not be locked by depressing the lock rod on inside of door, getting out, and closing the door like most other cars. One has to exit the car, and lock door with key. I have found this to be helpful to keep from locking keys in car. LOL

This bit of the project can be very frustrating trying to hook-up these rods & levers blindly in such a limited space to work. I used to be in the lock biz, and still my Dart gave me fits trying to reattach one of the pop-up locking rods to the door latch when I first got the car.
