Post subject:  Shim head gasket

The place I bought my shim head gasket seems to have stopped selling them, so I was wondering if there's a regular source people go to to get more of them.

I am still thinking about changing camshafts, and I'll need a new head gasket so I can pull the head and change the lifters.

Links?

thanks

If you have a drool plug head? No need to pull the head to change the lifters.

Yep, '74-down heads you can easily get the lifters out with mag pickup and/or long needle nose. I have done cam swaps many times w/o head removal.

On my 82 (peanut plug heads) I can pull the lifters with a lifter removal tool. The pushrods go through a hole that is just big enough to get the lifter out of.

Good point. Only the '76-80 (or '76-79) heads do not allow lifter removal.

I guess it wasn't enough to say that I have to pull the head to change the lifters. Do I HAVE to take pictures to show you precisely which head I have, so that you'll believe me? I have a bent pushrod, too. No clue how or why, but you can see it's bent.

In any case, after much effort to find the leaks and fix the idle, I sort of have a smooth idle now, that still lopes when the closed loop controller is in and running at stoich (on propane). I just don't know if I can gain enough down low torque to justify the costs. I really need this engine to crank on at 1600 to 3000.
