Post subject:  Oil pressure gauge sending unit mounting location

Quick question, does the can style sending unit for the OP gauge go in the little hole that's on the block behind the oil filter?

Reason being, I decided to swap sending units out since I put the gauge in my truck and removed the idiot light. When I tried to put in the new sending unit it hit the block, which means it will require a 45* fitting to fit on the back of the oil pump. Plus my choke heater is also controlled by the old switch type sending unit.

I don't believe the threads are the same. Check out 80s era vans the next time you are at the boneyard. They came factory with a standoff pipe that threads into the oil pressure gauge hole and has fittings for both the idiot light and the gauge sending unit.

I have a reducer bushing for the sender. I've just got to find a standpipe I guess.

Slant sixes are few and far between in the junk yards down here.

Sorry- I should have been clearer- check out 80s Dodge vans with V-8s (far more numerous than slant six powered vans). The oil sending unit fitting is back up by the distributor. Pull the doghouse and you will be looking right at it. Or, you might be able to build your own using pipe fittings from a home improvement store.

Thanks for clearing that up. I have a 318 sitting in the back of my shop, I'll look and see what it has.

I think I have a spare one tucked away somewhere. I'll dig around for it.

Reed I found one. The 318 I had in the back of my shop had the little tee fitting on it. I've got it soaking in parts cleaner now.
