Post subject:  Straight-up clutch disc ???

OK guys. Mopar uses 1"-23 on the A833, F@rd also uses a 1"-23. Question. Does the F@rd disc fit the Mopar input shaft?

I see a 1"-23 10" F@rd listed for the 4.0" Ranger. I'm not assuming that "splines are splines".

BTW, I bought Clifford's "Street-Strip" Weber clutch only to receive a puny 3 bolt pressure plate. $350 down the drain, back to square one on my clutch setup. As of now, it's not even going to come out of the box.

Have index head and a Bridgeport, so drilling new holes on the flywheel is no problem. Any recommendaions for a Centerforce pressure plate? I do plan to use a hydraulic throw-out bearing so we should be able to accomodate some pressure plate height variation.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Gilly,
Look down to my post about my clutch update. It list the part #, and prices for what we installed. It seems to work very well.

Thanks for the reply, Rick. I had seen your update. At this point, I'm extremely disappointed with the Weber clutch I currently have. :( At this point, I am not inclined to spend another dime them. I am happy for you that your setup is working well. I just don't see any of their parts making it into my bell housing.

RAM clutches list a 10" clutch for the 4.0L F@rd Ranger. It is listed as a 1"-23 spline. I was hoping that someone might know if the F@rd splines and the A833 splines are the same. When I get a day off, I may swing by NAPA and see if they have a F@rd disc I can "try on".

Post subject:  Splines

Gilly,
I'm pretty sure that the Ford disc splines are the same as the 833, although I'm not 100% sure. If memory serves me correct Doug said the disc in the Hot Rod article was a Ford unit. Maybe he can update us.

Well guys, here's the answer I got from RAM clutches...

Tom,
The ford and chrysler 23 splines are different. Pitch on the teeth eliminates this swap unfortunately. Height on the plate (unbolted) is 2 3/8, the fingers will be lower when bolted in. BC is 11.380, 8mm x 1.25 pitch, and it uses 3 dowel pins to drive off.

Put this one to bed. Still shoppin......
