http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/sho ... ost6949723 Saw this on Moparts and thought some here might find it interesting... He changed his 6 pack scoop for a cowl induction and closed off the grille with a picture of a new Challenger grille... Says he picked up some MPH and didn't cause heating issues... for what it's worth... |

I like the way he used graphics to make simple box shapes look more complex. My wife has done a couple of race car faux paint jobs now.....its about making the eye think it sees something. My race association rules state you must have a recognizable body eg: 27T roadster. My race car has flat aluminum sheets bolted to the roll cage. I decided I wanted my car to look like Gary Coopers 37 Duesenburg SSJ roadster. I downloaded a bunch of pictures and picked out the most iconic and recognisible themes. My good wife took those themes and sketched out some ideas on some art paper sized to scale based on the body panels. We decided to start we could shape the flat sheets visually by radiussing edges and making cutouts. When this was finished we laid out the whole graphic using masking tape. I cut stencils for the car name out of plastic sheet. I shot all the basic colours using spray bombs. My sheets were on sawhorses fully masked. When all was dry and most masking removed Denyse came by and hand painted all the light and shadow tricks that make graphics pop. She added a little sparkle here and there for fun. I Plan on reversing the body panels this winter and creating another theme in a different colour on the other side of the sheets. ![]() It seems if you took a flat piece of lexan that would fill a 69 dart grill area and painted or vinyled it to look like a 69 grille.......... Mebbe better yet do the swoopiest fibreglass nose and paint the whole thing to look like Dart bumper grill and lights..... |

I think I'll try something very similar with my Challenger. I have a couple pieces of plexiglass big enough (those yellowed windshields from the GodsRods Duster) and have a relationship with Ace Signs & Graphics now. Blocking off the grill and swapping to a cowl induction hood should help me pick up a tenth or two. ![]() |

I really like the idea of a reversed sixpak. The "Haze" had one running into the 8's or 9's. |

Hmmm,... Hadn't thought of that. ![]() The only drawback I see to the cowl induction is losing some of the Mopar connection. This poor little "Mitsubishi" Challenger has to struggle with its identity crisis already. ![]() A rear facing Six Pack scoop would be a little funky, but would retain some of the Mopar flair... Got any pics of The "Haze"...? I tried Google, but nothing yet... |

Maybe youtube. Purple haze? Wild car. Lowdeck with a giant turbo on alky. 71-72 Charger. The original builder drove it to the track. |

Thanks! Every Purple Haze I came up with was the FEDs. I could see doin' that on the Challenger. (The scoop, not running that fast! ![]() ![]() |
