I was given a flywheel that came from an '86-'87 /6 truck with a hydraulic clutch. It weighs 17 pounds, and is noticeably thinner than the 26 pound flywheel I got in my '75 Duster parts car. Can they be used interchangeably with no problems? I guess I'd have to readjust the clutch linkage, but I mean aside from that. The crank flange to disk surface distance seems to be the same on each. Which would be better for a drag racing /6? I'm thinking the 26 pound one. And the 17# one for road racing cars. The 26 pound one has a large ring of weight on the engine side that the 17 does not. |

Did this hydralic clutch setup bolt to the belhousing? Could this be easily adapted to a car? Thanks, I think you'll find differing opinions on the weight issue on the flywheels, even among aftermarket manufacturers. The new one I got from McLeod is approx. 30 lbs. I think their reasoning is small engine, small torque, heavier flywheel. This will have more inertia once everything is wound up. Rick |

Just my experience from helping a buddy with a small block Ford drag car. Heavy flywheel left the starting line harder, light flywheel was slower off the line, but ran more mph at the big end. ET was close to the same. |

Funny, I have a '64 Dart flywheel and an '80s truck flywheel. They both look about the same (except for crank hole) and both weigh 19 lbs w/o PP. If I were to fork over bucks for an aluminum flywheel, it would have to be like 12-13lbs max. Lou |

Searching for some other items and ran across this post. Does anyone have a picture of the factory truck hydralic clutch setup? And what years was it used on? Thanks Again rICK |

I've never seen a slant flywheel that weighs 26 pounds. I have one from an 82 truck and several others ranging back to a 63 Valiant. They all weigh about 16 pounds if I remember right. I do know that an 82 truck clutch setup will bolt to a mid sixties slant, because I just did it. |

| Post subject: | Truck flywheel... |
I parted down an '81 Ram with the A-833OD and have the flywheel as a spare and it has that cast ring on the engine side and it is heavier than out of a late model Duster by a few pounds. This truck had a tow/HD package on it, if that made a difference... Other than that it looks to be the same as any other /6 flywheel and looks to be neutral balanced. -D.Idiot |

All Slants are neutral balanced so swap any weight flywheel you want onto it. (they all should be neutral balanced) I have an 11 inch flywheel from the HD "granny low" 435 4-speed trucks and it also bolts-on and works with the proper bellhousing. DD |

I still have the flywheel if anyone wants it. The 17 pound one. I'm putting the 26 in my Duster if and when it ever gets built. I may put it on eBay over the winter. |
