Due to the dart being parked for awhile on account of bent drums, I've been poking around elsewhere.

I had a thought that may get shot down quickly (please do if this idea isn't feasible)

With the shift-linkage/clutch z-bar interference issue, I wonder if one could convert to a cable operated clutch???

Seems like an easy enough concept, and would effectively get rid of any linkage interference/mismatched bellhousings/bent z-bar brackets etc..

Does anyone have any knowledge about this idea? will it work? will it be a disaster?

I've never seen an A body clutch set-up, but imagining it.... It can't be too much different than a ford. I switched the linkage in my 68 mustang over from mechanical to cable. It wasn't too hard. I used a cable from a fox body mustang, had to weld a cable guide arch in above the pedal pivot. I have a T5 installed, so all the mounting holes for the cable bracket are already there. That might be a pita on yours depending on what tranny you have. You may have to Fab a braced bracket off of the floor or frame.
