Must you use a sealant of some kind for the metal plate and gasket that goes between the water pump body and the engine block? Both my slants had some kind of goopy sealant here, though the FSM for my 60V200 does not state to use a sealant in this location: merely to re-assemble and tighten. Could people please weigh in and detail for me? Thanks! |

i just bolted the pump on my motor an hour ago. no sealant is needed anywhere for the pump. but i used sealant between block and gasket, because there were a little pits on the block side on a few areas. i have been told, and read that there is no need for any sealant between any gasket and plate, which is a good thing for future repair. |

I'll assume the gaskets were still intact. If the one between the pump plate and block did not survive, you'll either goop it or use a new gasket. I usually have spares from the full gasket kit, and just replace both of them outright if using a used but good condition pump. -D.Idiot |

I replaced the water pump on my slant a couple of months ago, and I used no sealant/RTV whatsoever. It has been working just fine. FYI, Wes |
