2 things. Jamie Passon was looking for a factory early A body floor shift car to test fit a 5 speed to. Jamie Passon has 5 speeds that will bolt into A-B-E bodies in the hopefully near future. AFAIK it will require a custom 18 spline clutch puck for our slants. |

Isn't that Passon 5 spd priced around $4500? For that coin, I would do a T56 6spd or an X6 TCI 6spd auto... Still, if you want a real bolt in, then that is THE 5 spd option. Lou |

Isn't the area where the transmission mounts in the early & later A bodies the same? And the hump where the shift rods are should be the same. Ryan was interested in one of these and has not heard anything about their availability. Have you heard something? We spoke to Jamie at Carlisle and he said he had a supplier that could make up the disc that you would need for a slant 6. |

For $4500 I would sell my car with the 5 speed already installed..... |

Transmission mount is in the same location, the method of mounting changed from the jello block to the spool mount in the very late A-body.The hump area is a bit tighter in the 63-66 A-body than the 67-76, routing of the shift rods is similar though (there is some 'massaging' that sometimes occurs if the A-833OD is used in the pre-67 to clear the rods and shifter). Another item to note is the clutch linkage mounts very differently between the generations and would require the correct mounts to make everything line up if the 5 speed used the same bell as the A-833 or A-833OD. I can't see paying more than $1500 for a T-5 swap out with all the goodies...(currently I'm not into any of my A-833 OD's for a few hundred and most of that is the SPEC clutch...). I could see $2800 for a T-56/TKO style 6 speed, but don't see the utility outside of 'sport driving', clutching 5 times down the 1/4 is not constructive during the run. -D.Idiot |

My current strategy is a compromise between the Passon 5-spd and T-5: An A-833 with the Passon Overdrive gearset. You get overdrive (which is the main reason to go with a 5-spd, to me at least) without the bad gear spacing from the original A-833 OD. $1900 for the gearset, and everything else is stock, i.e., no fabrication required. I'll still have my T-5 bellhousing sitting on the shelf in case I ever feel comfortable fabricating a new crossmember. The Passon-geared 4-spd could then go into my V8 Dart. FYI and slightly off-topic, I discovered Brewer's has a hydraulic clutch kit that uses a slave off the clutch fork, rather than the expensive concentric throwout: http://www.brewersperformance.com/prodd ... p?prod=HYD It's still expensive, but cheaper than the concentric options. Those in-the-know could replicate this kit cheaper themselves, but it wouldn't include the slave mounting bracket that's all-important to those of us who don't fabricate... |

What about the Keisler TS45-RS400. Supposedly a bolt in. Not to long ago the basic transmission was around $1500. |

Summit advertises the Richmond Gear Street 5 speed for $2499. Another A833 replacement. |

If the Passon 5spd is $1900 and really a bolt in, then that's a good deal in my book. I saw some discussion of this trans (I thought) on Mopax and the price mentioned was over $4k... Guess that was something else. Lou |

The Tranny is 4K+ The $1900 is just a gearset. Rick |

Lou-Rick I believe that Vynn is talking about the 4 speed gearset that passon currently has now,not the 5 speed in development. Jared |

If you combine a factory 4 speed, high numerical ratio rear, with an overdrive, then you would have a good, minimally invasive set up that could give you excellent gear spacing and an overdrive for highway. The major problem with the Mopar 4 speed would be that it is harder than a T-5 to shift fast. But Sox and Martin didn't let at slow them down. The five speed is cool. But any way you do that, unless you are Sandy, it is a Major project. The overdrive should get more looks. Sam |
