Hi All,

Just re-installed my rebuilt 225 today, and it looks great. Excited about getting everything going again.

One problem, of course, is that my engine guy got me a new valve cover, which looks a lot different than my old one. Where I once had a flat PCV port with a rubber grommet, that pretty much made it easy to remove the correct PCV valve from, now I have this:



Basically, the PCV area now has a "neck" much like the breather/oil filler cap. Meanwhile, this thing looks pretty solid. Does the valve unscrew from this cap and I just can't see it? Or is this a "Cap and Valve" setup that I don't know about?

That is the original PCV, look inside the big end you will see a hexnut. Unscrewing it will release the "U" shaped spring and the valve.

That is a '61-'63 PCV valve. The brass elbow unscrews from the steel valve, which in turn comes apart for cleaning.

So, this is not a "replaceable valve"? If it isn't replaceable, is it just something you clean and it continues to work?

Or, is this something that is replaceable with a different grommet/metal PCV?

It is replaceable. You can install a new old stock '61-'63 valve (they work but they make noise), you can install a new old stock '64-'69 1-piece non-takeapart metal valve, or you can install a current-production all-plastic valve as described here.

(it sounds as if you previously had a '66-'69 valve cover, which has the ridges on top and the "chimney" up front for the oil cap, but a hole and grommet at the rear for a snap-in PCV valve)

Thanks again for the info, SSD. Thanks for the link. You're right, I did have a 66-69 valve cover before. I have a 68 and after head, so maybe it got on there when it was replaced ages ago.

(If you have the choice, the '66-'69 valve cover's PCV setup is less hassle)

Oh, I do agree with that. But my engine guy has the old one, and this one's freshly painted and looking good. I'll give this a shot.
