I know that early and the later 67 up oil pans are different, but are the oil pickups? What makes the later pan non usable in the 66-early cars ?

Question along the same line: to put a 1974 engine in a 1964 car(DART), do you need to change anything other than the oil pan and pickup?(do you need to chage the pickup?)

The sump on a 67 and up SL6 A-Body oil pan is more forward and hits on the K-frame.

As for swapping a 68 and newer SL6 into a early vehicle, you may need a different flywheel (manual shift) or a "spacer" for the back of the crank to adapt to the smaller torque converter pilot hub.

Sounds like you will need an adapter ring.
