After changing old dirty oil and adding a pint of Marvel Mystery, the first start start up produced copious amounts of gray colored smoke. Several starts , same smoke for about 15 to 20 minutes, and dialing in timing and carb adjust, it settled down to small amount of more blue smoke. Burning oil right ? None at idle, only when RPMs increased. I read here about cleaning "oil bypass valve" How is that done ? I'm new to slants |

Service the oil pressure relief valve to make sure it's doing its job, as described in these two threads: thread 1, thread 2. Engine cleanout info here. You'll want to get the three books described in this thread as quickly as you can. |

OK I did find some of those posts after I wrote my question.I know should have done the search first, but then would not have had your reply. That is my next plan to buy a manual specific to the slant six. By the way mine is a 1964 D100 pickup with a 225/6 and 3 speed manual trans. |
