Here is the best way I have found to mount a slant six (and this one is fairly sturdy, even though it is mounted to a three wheel stand and has a head bolted on):

I have had numerous engines(motors) on my stand, but the Slant 6 is by far the weirdest! (3 Bolts through, 1 Bolt In) Any tricks to mounting it better? Just not 100% comfortable with how it mounts. |

I use four my self. I just like all the weight to spread across (4) grade 8's. |

I have a wide 4 wheeled stand, and yes Grade-8 bolts, and I have it mounted very similar to your picture Reed, but I have the top left mount bolted through the top starter hole. I rolled it all around the garage and it’s not going to tip over or anything, it just doesn’t feel solid?(balanced like a V8 ) I do have the head on too. Must just be me.-Thanks Dan |

Reed mounts it like I mount mine....2 top bolts to the block the two bottom ones are through bolts. -D.Idiot |

+100 on a 4-wheeler with two base spars/arms:  being far stabler than a stand with only base 1 spar/arm:  Worth the extra expense without a doubt, IMHO, when it comes to avoiding the BIG "ooops!". |

I always try to get the engine plate as high up as possible (close to the block deck/cylinder head) so that the center of gravity is lower and also more centered when the engine is tilted. |

I know this thread is getting a bit old. But what size bolts are you guys using? Look like I'll need three bolts with nuts and washers and one to bolt into the block. Length, size and pitch would be awesome. |

Hello, Ok just picked up a super six . Complete motor which i would like to put on an engine stand. Anyone ever figure out which correct bolts are required? Still searching... |

The two that screw into the top bellhousing holes are 3/8" coarse thread. Length depends on the length of the tubes on your stand. I go through the bottom open holes. They take 7/16" bolts and nuts. Again, length depends on your stand. I think I have also gotten 1/2" bolts through the open holes. |

I mount my slants to the stand in a slightly odd way, but it gets the center of gravity lower. I haven't run into any problems with the engine mounted this way. It just lowers the entire assembly so it doesn't feel quite so top heavy. |
