How many of you racers run 40 or 50 wt engine oil in the rear end of your drag car instead of 85W140 Hypoid stuff? I have talked to romeo about this But I haven't tried it yet.. I don't want to blow anything up.. or shear gears or anything dumb like that. I have heard stories about some guys doing this... I was just curious.. Thoughts / discussions welcome Greg |

There are many engineered "lite" gear oils made for this application... Redline has a few different ones. DD http://www.race-mart.com/Synthetic-Shoc ... 12711.html ![]() |

Spool or SG? I have seen quite a few people run ATF when they have a spool. Not sure I would go that thin, but it works for them. |

Say, The 50 wt crankcase oil is in the same viscosity range as the 90 wt gear oil. They rate them differently to get the different #'s. Confusing but true. Running the 75w90 would be a good choice. I see Redline's Superlite is just a 75w90. I've heard the same stories about ATF in rear-ends but never tried it. The ATF (10-20wt) would fall into the 75-80 wt class in gear oils. Good luck Later, Ryan |

this is one of my secrets of a race car that can stay dialed in. My car with the stock engine i used ------ in the rearend racers said you can not do this. I can do what i want to in my race car. With the Bruner race engine I use ------- in the rear end . It is not so much I would tell but it is about the performance and dependable that I have had and that is what it is worth. I can tell you what I have used and what i now use at the Banquit. Thanks Ron ![]() It Aint Over Until I Win |

I want to try to achieve some oil / weight / viscosity between cold runs and hot ones.. THe cold runs the car is a bit slower so If at a race the car sits looooong between rounds or is just cold it slows down sometimes a tenth. ![]() Greg |

I've seen many of the faster cars (You know, the Big Dogs) running their cars up on jack stands before a pass to warm up the trans and rear...
