I have a rebuilt tranny ready to go in my Dart but I want ti pre-diagnose the old one so I can make sure I correct the problem. When I start out in Drive, it shifts 1,2,3,2, and stays in 2nd, no matter how fast I go. It only stays in 3rd for less than a second. I am thinking maybe a stuck governor. Any other ideas on what I should be looking for? |

By all means,do the factory pressure tests first. Did this trans always have this problem,or did it just start one day? Does it work OK in reverse? I agree, it sounds like a governer or valve body problem |

You need a 300psi pressure guage connected to the pressure test ports on the trans. It could be governor- pressure should increase steadily with vehicle speed. My bet is on a valve body problem. |
