Post subject:  '64 Valiant Tail Light Lenses

Ok, I may be looking right over it in the network section, but who if anyone makes tail light lenses for '64 Valiants? I need the long red top part for the plainer housing - this type:

Both sides have "SAE STD 64V" on the outside, along with the DPCD and circled DJ.

I need a passenger-side lens. Mine is faded and has lots of cracking. The writing on the back of the passenger-side lens is illegible.

My spare driver-side lens has this on the back side: TAAAT (illegible character) 3 20411 2624033.

I see THIS PAIR from Mexico on Ebay. Has anyone bought from this seller?

The Mexican ones for the '64 are nice quality pieces, and you can't beat the price. I haven't bought from this particular seller that I know of (though I might have outside of eBay in the past), but s/he has a very high positive feedback rating. I would go ahead and get them.


(…or you can grossly overpay at Layson's and get lenses they imported from outside the US, if they decide to send you the parts you ordered… :roll:)

I bought a pair from this seller last year. They're cheap, but they do look good and they fit. The problem was, when I used the original screws to attach them, the lenses cracked at the screw hole. I probably should have cleaned the screws up more, possibly even found screws that had a slightly smaller diameter or were a bit shorter, lubricated them, or something like that. If you buy these, be very careful when attaching them.

I bought lenses for a 66 Valiant, and had the same problem. I had to use different screws. These lenses are fine for a daily driver, and the price is reasonable, but they are far from perfect. That said I would buy again.

Unique Wheels Series 21 (Same as Cragar 210)
15" x 7" steel
5 on 4.5" bolt circle (Large bolt pattern)
+13mm offset (1/2")
Part number 21-5712P(1)

There is a version with -6mm offset - too tight for my setup.

I got these cheap at Discount Tire.

The centers are American Racing cast-offs.
I also have some 14" Rallye rims, but I wanted to go +2 (originals were 13" on a small bolt pattern). Still saving nickels and dimes toward something better

The tires are 205-60R15.

So if I run some 1/2 inch adapters to go to 5x4.5 bolt pattern the 13mm offset would put my wheels about right so as not to have any scrubbing on the inner fenders with the same size wheels and tires, right.......I looked those up at Discount Tire and saw some black wheels that looked good also thinking about giving them a try, did you have to specify the offset or did they come that way.........Thanks

They make that wheel, with that bolt pattern and size, in two offsets: -6mm and +13mm. Only the -6 was listed on the Discount Tire website at the time, and it wouldn't have worked in the rear of my car.

I talked to the guy at the counter and he poked around on the computer until he found some options, including the +13mm offset. They arrived a few days later.

It works on my car, with just this much clearance (looking almost straight up, with my not-huge fingers jammed pretty firmly up there):

I don't know what the wheel wells are like in Darts. There's enough variation in these cars that you'll need to check clearance on your particular setup.

I don't use bolt-circle adapters.

Followup: The new lenses arrived from Mexico today.
Ordered on 7 April, in hand on 3 May, from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.

They are marked "Mayers 1300L" and "Mayers 1300R".

They look good. I'll compare them to the OEM parts on the car later. I have read that the screw holes may be a bit tight, but I'll be careful when installing.

It'll nice to see red, uncracked lenses on the Valiant again.

The only real difference, besides the markings, is that the screw holes are not counterbored like my old lenses are.

I used the screws as taps, feeding them in slowly and removing to clear chips often. The lenses fit nicely and look plenty good enough for me. Of course, they make the clear lenses and the chrome housings look kind of shabby ...
