Here's the Situation all of you Trans Guru's:




I broke a driveshaft in my race car a month ago.


When the Driveshaft broke the Front of my 904 Bellhousing cracked and seperated from the Back of the engine..


So the trans pump gear and the rear of the torque converter were holding the front of the trans up in the car.

This Wiped out my pump gear and the Pump support on the trans - Also the converter bushing was wiped out and the Pump drive on the converter developed a crack:(view pics 2& 3 Full size - Click on them)

So My question is Can that crack in the pump drive of the converter be repaired??? If not can I send the converter back to PTC and have them Esentially just swap out the guts etc into a new case - or not even worry about it because it costs too much etc?


Do I not worry about it and Just stick it in there and run it?

I had a converter pump drive let go on me on a stock converter / trans 904 many years ago and I was hesitant to run this converter because of that. (in that situation one entire half of the pump drive on the converter broke off inside the trans:shock:)

Don't run it as-is. Contact PTC and see how much it would cost to fix it.

That used to be a common problem, untill the converter mfgs changed the material of the pump drive, and put a radius in the corners of the notch. I cracked a few back in the "70"s, with my stock eliminator car.
Don't run it that way, the crack will open up and allow fluid to leak past the front seal (mostly when loaded on the starting line), at the very least. Any converter manufacturer can replace the pump drive for an affordable price.

Fix it. They can replace just the pump drive hub.
