[I searched the forum and couldn't find this; found some related issues but not exact] I feel like Homer Simpson and guessing I'm probably going to have to take the entire thing apart, and no I'm not feeling comfortable about it - quite intimidated actually. Any short-cuts or pre-dissassembly troubleshooting ideas you guys have would be awesome. |

A little more info is needed, were you driving the car, has the car just been sitting, What car is it. Its all in the details. BUT despite the lack of details have you tried losening the Brake Bleeder to relieve the pressure, if there is pressure applied. Could be a variety of causes though and with out more info, its hard to "guess"

Most likely a sticky / stuck emergency brake cable... Inspect / spray it with lubricant, then try pushing it back into the outer cable housing. DD |

If it's been sitting that long the brake shoes might be stuck to the drum, a little moist and no driving can do nasty things to them. If none of the above helps, give the drums a good bang with a hammer and see if that loosen it up. |

Well, if it's been sitting for a year and the shoe is stuck to the drum there is not that much else you can do, and if a drum can survive transport with the postal service, it can survive a wakeup call with a hammer also, but of course, there is no reason to use more violence that you have to, there is always a chance of warping or damage using a hammer on cast iron parts. But as a last resort it works very good most of time, and that's why I wrote "If none of the above helps..." |
