| Post subject: | Gas Cap - Difference between 63-66 vs. 67-71 vs. 72up? |
Hi My '66 Dart gas cap is not sealing properly, need a replacement gas cap before I ruined the new paint. Just wondering what are the differences between the '63-'66 and 67'-71" cap? what about the '72 and up gas cap? Can I use the 67up on my '66 Dart? Will it seal properly? Also, among the gas cap for '66, which one would you recommend? (brand vs stock) and where to buy it. Thanks Syed |

I used a '70/71 cap on my '66 for many years. I had to bend the tabs slightly, but it did work. It did not look correct, but it worked a whole lot better than a rag. |

'60-'66 A-bodies use one kind of cap. '67-'69 (California) and '67-'70 (other 49 states + Canada) use another kind of cap. '70 (California) and early-production '71 (50-state/Canada) use another kind of cap. Late-production '71-'76 use another kind of cap. I've got new '60-'66 A-body gas caps, all metal, well-made. Present batch wasn't packed properly for shipment and so there are some scuffs and scratches. They look like decent to very good used caps, and I am selling them at a discount waiting for the next batch (properly packed) to come in. Send me a PM if you'd like one. If you want a fancy cap, there is a guy (Damraider) making machined aluminum ones. |
