I think it was Hot Rod magazine that had an article way back in the 1960's on adding overdrive to a four speed manual transmissions . The overdrive units were conventional overdrive units from 3 on the tree overdrive cars. I have trouble remembering the article because I read it twenty years ago. I think basically that the rear tail assembly was bolted on the four speed transmission with little or no modification because they were made by the same manufacturer and were compatible. Then all of the overdrive wiring ,switches and cable would be added to the car. I have seen one of these units grafted onto a ford cruise-o-matic . The rear shaft was spliced to the overdrive rear shaft and there was an adapter plate made to mount the overdrive tail shaft housing. This is a really cool site with a lot of talented people and good technical info. I'm sure someone here has some experience with one of these conversions. Happy Motoring D150 |

Actually, I didn't think to ask what years the trannie fit's, I'm retrofitting everything into my 64 Plymouth and playing with it to have something to do while retired and to keep from doing what my wife wants me to do. The trannie is exactly like the core which came out of a 74 valient that I bought for the engine and disc brakes to put on mine. |
