I have a 85 w-150 with /6,granny four speed granny ...just drove a 97 4x4 ram 1500 with v8,5 speed...my question is will the 97 trans fit in the 85 |

over 100 views no replys ...let me re fraze this ...is there a 5 speed ,preferably OD that will fit into my 85 w-150 has 4 speed granny now ...any ideas helpful keep on roddin' |

No direct bolt up. I have read about people mating t-5s to the slant, maybe someone who has done that will speak up. |

Not without an adaptor set made by the factory in the '60s to install A727LA (small block V8) 727 transmissions behind slant-6 engines, used in trucks and heavy-duty cars (police/taxi), or the conceptually identical adaptor set made some years ago in small volume by AR Engineering; DusterIdiot presently has the CAD drawings.

I have a slant six d150, i put a a833od on it, I hated it, a very weak transmission!! At least compaired to the np435,, |

had the a833 od in several d150s ...loved it .... only weakness I knew of was not supposse to tow in ODstill did it anyways ......wont fit into my w150 |

The transmission is a very strong transmission especially if you are talking about the iron case units. I don't think very many slant 6 powered cars or trucks have the umph to tear one up. Personal experience in my car (years ago) and my son's Dart for the last 10 years says that they are pretty strong!  Maybe you got a lemon?  Rick |

It could be I got a lemon. When I put the a833od on my truck I had to really bring up the rpms in order for my truck to respond, i tried to carry some weight with it and it took a lot more from my truck. I put the np435 back on and my truck can carry over 1.5 cubic meters of sand with no problems. again, this is just my side of it, I had a bad experience with the a833od. |

Um…that doesn't mean the transmission is "weak" in any sense of the word. It means you did not pay any attention to the truck's rear axle ratio and tire size to make sure they were appropriately matched to the transmission you installed, that's all.

OOOO, thats whats so great about this forum. I am always learning something new. its a 1982 d150. i have stock tires on it, (cant remember the size, think its 235/75 r15) and the rear is 3.5. I stand corrected! |

didnt really care for the a833 od with 3.5 gears ...changed out to 4.10 and 295/50x15 tires(only 29 inches tall) .... was real happy with it ...it stayed in power band at speed,hauled over weight loads |

ok, thank you for all the info. i don't want to change gears, I like the power i get with this setup, only thing I don't like is freeway driving. Rpms are very high going 65 mph. |

A factory adapter for the slant to a small block housing? That sounds great. Are the drawings something I could get? Depending on the size I might be able to machine some occasionally. |
