My old pickup is tired. It's smoking like crazy through the breather and exhaust, and the power is just gone. I've never rebuilt a motor, and don't really have the space to do so. Are any of the rebuilt motors from the local auto parts store reliably rebuilt? 1986 D100 |

I have never seen or heard any really good things about off-the-shelf "remanufactured" engines. They tend to be like other "remanufactured" parts from parts stores: cheaply thrown together with low-bid replacement parts, and with a fancy warranty certificate to pry your wallet out of your pocket. The only exception: From my friend who is the service writer at a very good independent repair shop in Michigan I hear decent feedback on the Jasper factory rebuilt engines, and apparently they do a good job of standing behind their work (warranty, etc.) |

I've heard good things about Jasper engines also. We have lots of Jasper reman diesel engines running around here and I haven't heard anything bad about them. One to avoid are any engines done by Marshall (Blueprint Engines). Marshall has a history of not standing behind warranty issues and brazing up cracked blocks instead of tossing them out. |

Thanks guys, I'd have likely stumbled into the local parts place. Sounds like I need to find a rebuilder in southwest Virginia or give Jasper a call. |
